In designing the “MS Sofa” inspired by the generous character of Sergio Rodrigues’s Mole chair and the structural honesty of Enzo Mari’s Gamba di Legno I sought to reinterpret this commanding armchair through a more intimate, sensory lens, exploring the tension between a robust frame and the softness required for exceptional comfort.

The armchair is built upon a solid cedar wood frame, carefully selected for its grain, character, and natural aroma. Its design emerges from a dialogue between geometries: the solid, almost architectural presence of square sections is softened by rounded elements that pass through the structure. This contrast creates a balance between structure and softness, lending the armchair a firm, grounded presence.

Generous leather cushions add a layer of softness to the sturdy frame, enveloping the body and inviting relaxation. The leather’s natural texture and scent introduce an additional sensory dimension a quality that will evolve, soften, and develop its own unique character over time and with use.

Traditional leatherworking techniques are central to the armchair’s construction. Every joint, assembly, and hand-finished detail reveals the precision of the craft and the artisan’s touch. Far from concealing its manufacturing process, the piece allows its materials, construction, and craftsmanship to become part of its own expression.

The challenge lay in finding lightness within a robust build: creating something solid and durable, yet inviting enough to encourage one to sit, rest, and linger.
