“Connect for light
Share for flowers
Multiply beauty
Empathic connections”
Empathy was conceived during a research residency in Kyoto, Japan, focused on modern design and traditional craftsmanship. The project emerged from an exploration of Japanese aesthetics and the values embedded in its craft traditions where beauty is often found in simplicity, balance, restraint, and the interplay between elements, rather than in the individual object in isolation.
The collection comprises three vases and three candle holders crafted using the traditional Kiyomizu ceramic technique. The combination of blue, white, and gold draws inspiration from the long history of Japanese ceramics and their enduring influence on the visual language of beauty.
While each piece possesses its own distinct form and function, they are designed to connect with one another in various configurations. A vase might meet a candle holder; one piece may support, frame, or transform another. These relationships are not static; they shift depending on how the pieces are brought together.
This potential for connection became the central concept of the collection. Just as individual experiences are enriched through encounters with others, these objects take on new meanings when brought together. Empathy understood as the capacity to recognize and share another’s inner experience is transformed here into a physical gesture: a relationship between forms.
Rather than creating a single, fixed composition, Empathy proposes a system of relationships in which beauty is multiplied through interaction. The individual pieces are complete in themselves, yet together they create something that none could express alone.
