Balance was born from my collaboration with master artisan Mario Casimiro, whom I first met and visited in Cuanajo, Michoacán, in 2017. His work centers on carving fish, flowers, and leaves motifs that reflect the biodiversity of his region and form part of his craft’s visual heritage.

Using these elements, we developed an abstraction based on simple lines, transforming natural forms into a continuous, dynamic texture full of movement. Hand-carved into the wood, the surface shifts with the light, revealing the artisan’s touch in every stroke. This same design logic can expand and adapt across various scales and pieces, from nightstands to credenzas.

In the Balance Nightstand, this texture wraps around the form and discreetly conceals the drawer, turning the surface into a play on perception. The solid body rests on four points of balance formed by smooth, solid cedar cylinders while a lower shelf completes the structure, providing space for books or objects.

Balance derives its name from the dialogue between weight and lightness, between the solidity of the wood and the movement of the hand-carved surface. It is a piece that translates the nature of Cuanajo into a new form of expression, without losing the imprint of the craftsmanship that gave it life.
