Laura sees design as an effective way to identify and solve problems, while bringing together different processes to create value through design. Her professional practice is guided by a timeless and honest approach and spans product and interior design, cultural management, and collaborative projects.
She is Creative Director and Co-founder of Tributo, a Mexican design brand offering handcrafted furniture, lighting, and accessories that create a cartography of Mexico’s cultural and material diversity. Produced across diverse regions in Mexico through a creative network of designers and artisans, tributo’s pieces celebrate the value of the handmade and the influence of tradition on the story behind each product.
Born in 1980, Laura earned her BA in Industrial Design from the University of Guadalajara in 2003, including two international academic experiences: at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain, in 2000, and at the University of Bío-Bío in Concepción, Chile, in 2002. In 2007, she earned a Master’s degree in Interior Architecture from Politecnico di Milano, Italy. In 2012, she was awarded the “Modern Design and Traditional Craftsmanship” research fellowship at the Kyoto Institute of Technology in Kyoto, Japan, supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and CONACYT.
She has designed and led workshops exploring a wide range of topics related to design, development, and trends for both academic institutions and the private sector. She has also lectured at conferences, forums, and universities in Mexico and abroad.
Her individual and collaborative projects have been presented at major national and international museums, exhibitions, and design events, including the Museo Nacional de Antropología in Mexico City, Museo Franz Mayer, Museo Tamayo, Museo de Arte Popular, GRASSI Museum in Leipzig Germany, Dubai Design Week, WantedDesign New York, Tokyo Design Week, SaloneSatellite at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, Berlin Design Week, and Tent London, among others.
Her work was featured in Designed for Life: The World’s Best Product Designers, published by Phaidon in 2024, and one of her designs are part of the Denver Art Museum’s permanent design collection.
As part of her commitment to strengthening the design community, Laura co-founded OCCIDENTE Galería, Guadalajara’s first gallery dedicated to local design. The gallery brings together leading voices in functional and collectible design from Western Mexico under one same space.
